Why I have chosen PowerPoint as my teaching-learning materials:

Now, let me introduce you all to my creation of materials. For my creation of materials, I have used PowerPoint for teaching and learning. Microsoft PowerPoint is multimedia presentation software that has changed the way people present ideas and information to an audience. With just a few clicks and keystrokes, you can add graphics, text, audio, video, and animation to a slide show. In the classroom, PowerPoint's ability to integrate sound, animation, and video in a slide show can capture the attention of media and video preference students. Text in a PowerPoint is easier to read than notes on the board. Teachers can have greater flexibility in presenting lessons, which can be used repeatedly and modified as needed to different classes.

 

In specific the instructions for creating content based materials are as follows:

1.      Firstly with proper planning and looking for an advantage I have chosen PowerPoint as my ICT tools for designing my materials

2.      Secondly before entering into the designing of a presentation I make some notes to keep myself on a track that will help me to do a presentation systematically.

3.      Then depending upon my topic addition, I have downloaded some images to make my slides more attractive which attracts learners’ attention.

4.      Lastly on completion of PowerPoint I carefully glance through the slides whether the slides were in order or not as well as the information.

 When to use:

 1. During the introduction of lesson development on the continent and oceans (definition, what are             addend and sum)

2. While doing the activity (when they do the activity if they got stuck they can refer the slides

3.During summarizing the lesson (by referring to the slides that have shown earlier and glancing once again

How to use:

Firstly to introduce my lesson development on my topic addition, I will use the slide which presents the definition, what are addend and sum. Secondly, if they got stuck while doing an activity teacher will show the slides again to the whole class. Lastly, in order to check their understanding of the particular topic continents and oceans, we will glance at the slides in the form of summary type and ask some questions based on the topic.

Activity instruction:

v  You will do the activity individually

v  Each one of you will be provided with a worksheet on addition.

v  First count and add the numbers in form of pictures.

v  Then, write the sum on given space

v  You all will be given 10 minutes to complete the task

Topic: Weather.

Class:  IV.

The content based materials I have designed is for grade four. The topic is weather from socio studies subject. The main objectives of the materials are to let students to identify the weather words appropriately, describe types of weather clearly and finally able to write sentences using the weather words. The tool I have used this time is Camtasia.  Camtasia is powerful video editing software, which supports most video media formats and presents an easy to use demonstration and education video platform. Apart from recording videos and audios, Camtasia is good for video editing and very easy to learn for the beginner.

How did I create the materials? 

First of all I planned to prepare a PowerPoint presentation on weather and then only I can screen record using Camtasia. I have designed the images of weather and types of weather using shapes and some images are downloaded from google. I have used entrance animation (wipe and swivel) to introduce the topic in the first slide and followed by wipe animation to display the objectives of lesson in second slide. For the following slides, I have used simple and several animations like appear, fade, disappear, wipe in order to guide the students properly and not to distract them. I have also inserted pictures downloaded from internet to support the concept and make it interesting and understandable.

After the presentation is completed, I opened the Camtasia Studio 8.2 version and selected record the screen option and started recording. I explained the concepts as if I were teaching in the real classroom. I saved the recording after it is done and automatically it took me back to Camtasia. Then, I started editing by using tool such as cut, split, transition. After that, I saved the video from produce and share option by selecting the MP4 with video player (up to 720p) because it will give the best version of graphic compare to other option.

When should the materials be used?

The materials can be used during lesson development and lesson closure. The video can be used as information input under lesson development in teaching the concepts to students because all the information are clearly explained with voice narration. Teacher can pause the video when it reaches to difficult part or unfamiliar words because students will be confused if the video is played continuous without getting the concept. We can also pause the video after all the concepts are explained to carry out the activity. The teacher can also use the summary part from the video during lesson closure because through graphic organizer students will be interested as well as teacher can help students to recapitulate the lesson learned.

Activity instructions:

1.       You are going to work individually.

2.       Find and list at least five weather words that you found.

3.       Making sentences using the weather words that they have found.

4.       After that answer the following questions.

I.       How do you feel when it is rainy, sunny and cloudy?  Why?

II.       How does weather affect human activities?

III.       Which type of weather do you prefer? Why?

How did I created the material?

The content based materials that I have designed was on topic (Uncountable Nouns) under English curriculum for class III students integrating power point tools.  My main objectives here is to define the uncountable nouns, some examples of uncountable nouns and will be able to identify nouns word and differentiate the countable and uncountable nouns outside the classroom (real life application).

I have created power point in such a way that it can attracts the attention of students in glimpse. Since my topic on noun, I took an advantage of tools which was provided by power point tools and to make more attractive and to help them understand in realistic way I have downloaded some images from Google, Facebook, and other sources. Images were used in each slide to make meaning from it which will help (visual learner)and I also added the voice over on the explanation on uncountable nouns. In order to wipe out the monotonous feelings of audiences while going through my presentation I have used various ingredient of animation which includes entrance, emphasis, and exit in my power point presentation.

Relevancy of  the topic to the class level , when and where to use

The topic I have chosen is relevant to the class level as they have to learn about nouns (naming words) which helps them to identify the name of a person, places, thing.  This learning materials can be used in lesson development or while delivering lesson and it can be also used while doing activity. It will be used in lesson development while giving lesson input as the learner can understand the concept clearly as I have used images, understandable texts and concert examples.

v  I have downloaded some images and video which I can use it while formulating my slides in attractive way.

v  Before designing presentation I take some notes to keep design the presentation in systematic way or to have smooth flow.

v  In first slide, I have introduce the topic with the use of some images and followed by the introduction of topic.

v  Then in the following slide, I have introduce the types of countable nouns and the examples by inserting some images which students will learn in concert and abstract manner.

v   I have inserted also inserted voice over on presentation which helps auditory learner to understand the topic.

v  Lastly, I have some questions in order to make student think and to evaluate their understanding which also sustain student learning.

This learning materials can be used in lesson development or while delivering lesson and it can be also used while doing activity. It will be used in lesson development while giving lesson input as the learner can understand the concept clearly as I have used images, understandable texts and concert examples.

Learners have to do two activities firstly they are ask to note some examples of countable nouns that they see around themselves and then share their examples with friends. Second activity has to be done in pair (shoulder partner). I have set of question in my power point presentation, they have the pause the video, look at the question and try to answer those question. If you can’t answer it you can always rewind or revisit the early slides to get some ideas. Then after answering  all the questions share your notebook with your face partner to check each other’s answer.

How I developed the content based material on multiplication for grade 3.

  Hello friends,

This is my second post on my blog. My second post is about learning activity that I designed using ICT which is a must to all the 21^st century learners.  To design this content based learning materials, I choose class III, mathematic subject which is on multiplication among four basic operation. To teach about this topic I integrate PowerPoint as an integral part of the lesson mainly focusing on the activity.. Since we have different learner preference we have to design the activities as per individual learning preference so that they will always learn better. That way I thought integration of ICT fulfill many learners’ learning preference, By keeping this in mind and objectives of the content I had prepared a lesson plan using PowerPoint. Through power point we are able to meet students learning preference as PowerPoint has multimedia purpose.

To talk about my creation of content based learning materials, as mentioned earlier, I have used PowerPoint to create the materials,  I chose the topic ‘multiplication’ I downloaded some images from Google to make my materials more realistic. Through that students can learn better as they might also see these types of materials in their daily life. Not only have that for visual learning students they can learn bettered by looking at the images and pictures of the lesson and also to meet the other learning preference ( auditory and athletics learner) I have added the voice in a video and also given some  activities. I also use simple animation like entrance, emphasis and exit so that learners control their attentions. 

Instruction for creating content based materials and activity are as follow;

·         I choose PowerPoint as a tool to prepare learning materials as I feel it is more appropriate.

·         Then, I use simple animations to grab the attention of the learners.

·         I have downloaded some relevant pictures and images from Google and Pinterest to make activity attractive.

·         I also write some notes to give clear understanding about the topic.

·         To do the activity, I have design some question where students are ask to solve using different strategies.

·         To make myself clear about the lesson, I have also designed materials to conduct a question and answer to check students' understanding.

   The activity will be individually and in group. firstly they have to solve few questions individually you have to pause the video look at the questions and try to solve it after that you all are going to solve it in a group (I will group you in groups ) .  At the end of the video I  have a set of questions for you all. you all can discuss and solve it.  you can revisit the method that you are going to solve. You can use video lesson as guide to help while doing activities.

I am Namgay Bidha  from Haa  and  I have complete my 12 grade from Gongzim Ugyen Dorji Secondary School then I join  Paro college of education in 2017 taking the general course in primary education. I have joined this college as I am interested in teaching as well as dealing with young children. After joining the  college and studying different modules like child psychologies, child play and teaching strategies it boost my interest on teaching.

I like reading, watching drama, chatting with friends and listening music. I spent my leisure time reading novels, stories and inspirational books and I also watch some drama and inspirational talks. When I read those inspirational books and  novels I get some knowledge and motivation from the books and from movies and drama so I like doing these things in my leisure time. Sometime I listen to music when I am doing household work and assignments.

Now let me share about my college life. I joined the college in 2017 where I am new to this place and it difficult for me to adapt to this place as i am not that sociable person but fortunately I met with Tshering Lhaden and Choney Wangmo who were my roommates. I feel very comfortable with them, with classmates and slowly I was able to adapt to the place and now i like this place a lot as I consider this place as source of knowledge.

Before joining this college I don't have any ideas in teaching and learning but after joining the taking the teaching course I have learnt about teaching and learning through effective teaching strategies, ways to deal with the students, teaching the students through play. So now I feel after training for four years I am more confident to deal with young mind as I have got know the strategies to teach and learn along with the children.

We were sent to teaching practice t for six month at different school during our third year.  I have done my teaching practice at Jyenkhana Primary School. The experience I got during my teaching practice was the best experience as I got an opportunities to deal with the young children as well as I have got an opportunity to work with my teachers. After going for teaching practice I learnt that teaching profession the lifelong learning process as every day we learn something along with the students and get satisfaction.
